Reginae Regis has entirely pre-written characters and is vulnerable to people dropping out at short notice. To deal with this, we will be offering cheaper ‘understudy’ tickets, who will not know their role until just before the game. We will also maintain a waiting list of interested players.
These are not the only cheaper tickets. There are also concession tickets, which are identical to regular tickets in all ways other than price. The price of the ticket will not be a factor in the type of character people are offered in the casting process.
Types of tickets, prices
Regular tickets £220
Normal ticket to play the game and be offered a character well in advance of the game.
Concession tickets, £50, limit of 8 available
Exactly like a regular ticket but cheaper.
These are intended for people where the regular cost would be an issue, or who otherwise have poor access or representation within larp. We’d like to be clear that we think this includes people of colour and disabled people.
These tickets aren’t means-tested in any way, you just tell us if you want one.
Understudy tickets, £50, limit of 8 available
- Not cast as a specific character in advance.
- You will definitely be playing a character at the game, either a critical role that has dropped out at short notice or an additional role that would otherwise have been an NPC.
- You may be asked to change character as late as Friday night if a critical role drops out.
These players will not be cast as a character in advance. Obviously this means you need to be comfortable picking up a potentially complex brief at short notice and might need to do your best with adapting costume. In either case you will still be coming to the larp and playing a character. If you don’t get dropped into one of the existing roles because of lack of dropouts, a character in a Court will be added for you a couple of weeks before the game, but if somebody drops out after then, you still might get asked to step into their role.
Refund Policy
We will not guarantee refunds at any point after payment.
If you are unable to come to the game, please let us know as soon as possible. We will attempt to resell the ticket and will pass any resale amount. Please note that this may not be the full original price and is likely to be more discounted the closer we get to the event.
If you have to cancel in the last week for health reasons, we will refund you as much as we can out of funds remaining after the game.
Booking process
1) Fill in the expression of interest form
If you’d like to play, fill in the expression of interest form. This will be fairly simple and cover what kind of ticket you’d like, and a few basic details including access info. It will open on March 10th for a week, and is not first come first served.
2) Check the list of possible players
We’ll publish a list of players who have expressed interest via email. We won’t require or publish ‘legal’ names (whatever that actually means), just a name you can clearly be identified by the people likely to come to the event. We intend to publish crew names at the same time. Get in touch with us if you have any issues.
3) Fill in a casting form
We’ll send out casting forms for people to fill in with some detailed questions to work out what roles would suit you best. Depending on the level of interest we may send these out to everybody or we take a selection of players from the interested list. Either way, we’ll let people know the situation.
We know casting forms have a reputation for being quite long and complicated. Honestly, ours isn’t finalised yet: it will ask you about what sort of characters you will be willing to play e.g. gender, age range.
If it’s a problem for anybody to fill in, we’re happy to call you and get the information from you in a different way.
4) Wait!
We’ll take all the casting information and quietly panic for a while while we try and turn all the data into something that’ll please as many people as possible. This can be quite a difficult process but we’ll work to a clear timeframe and get back to people with any questions or issues.
5) Character offers and payment
You’ll get an offer of a specific character which you can accept or let us know if you have major problems with.
Understudy tickets will be offered at the same time.
To confirm your place, you’ll need to pay your ticket price within a month, if this is an issue, please let us know.
People who don’t get offered tickets will be placed on a waiting list that we will use to replace players who drop out. You can ask to be removed from the waiting list at any time.
6) Character briefs go out
We want to send out character briefs as soon as possible so you have plenty of time to read them, think about kit, and make contact with your contacts.
The briefs are quite long text documents and we know that isn’t the ideal format for everybody for accessibility reasons. If you would prefer it in an audio format, or in the form of a call to talk through it then we are happy to sort that out.
